Arsenal fan favourite hospitalised while on international duty

Arsenal’s teen superstar Alex Iwobi has been unable to train with Nigeria ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egpyt this Friday, with the 19-year-old hospitalised with food poisoning, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Iwobi has been a revelation for Arsenal this season, and despite making just a handful of appearances for the senior side, he has impressed hugely and become a real fan favourite.

He scored his first Arsenal goal when given his full Premier League debut against Everton last weekend, and the fans are keen to see more of him during the remainder of the campaign.

Arsenal will be hoping this bout of food poisoning is nothing serious, and will be buoyed by Nigeria coach Samson Siasia revealing that the young forward was currently in a stable position.

“He suffered from food poisoning and so was not part of the training. But his condition is stable,” Siasia said.

“Iwobi probably got sick after eating a salad.”

Although you never want your players to suffer an injury or an illness, this couldn’t really have come at a better time for Arsenal. We’re right at the start of an international break, and you’d expect Iwobi to return before Arsenal’s next Premier League game.

It would be a real blow for Arsene Wenger to be without Iwobi when the international break ends, as injuries have already crippled his side’s season. The young academy graduate has been a breath of fresh air in a rather stale looking Arsenal side of late, and it would be fantastic to see him continue in this vein of form.

He’s managed to displace the likes of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell, and to lose his place due to food poisoning would unquestionably be extremely disappointing for the youngster.
