Throughout his career as a co-commentator and pundit thus far, Michael Owen has constantly drawn the ire of supporters for some of his statements.
Regardless of opinion, it’s a tough job at times and it’s all about opinions, which should by and large be respected and disagreed with if necessary.
However, it seems as though the former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker has a habit of getting people to disagree with him or at least lambast him on social media, and he’s done it again this week.
Owen stated that Everton defender John Stones “could walk into the Barcelona team”, such is the level he holds him at, and it didn’t take long before the responses started to fly in on Twitter.
Check out what Owen had to say about Stones in the video below, with the subsequent reaction further down.
What’s Michael Owen on? The only way John Stones could walk into the Barcelona team is if they were coming out of a lift as he was going in

Michael Owen is the most deluded clown, Stones can’t get in the Everton team ahead of Jags and Funes, never mind “any Barça team”

If Michael Owen thinks John Stones could ‘walk into the Barcelona team’, he must be talking about Ecuador’s SC Barcelona. Fair enough.

Michael Owen: Stones could walk into the Barcelona team.. Yeah and I could bang Katy Perry.. #Blurt ??????

Don’t get me wrong, I think John Stones is a very good player and will go on to be class. But he’s not Barcelona. Not yet, nowhere near.

You could actually get a CB as good as John Stones from the Spanish 2nd Division for 1 million?
