Italian giants line up £24m January deal for out-of-favour Manchester United star

AC Milan reportedly wish to sign Manchester United winger Memphis Depay, and will make a £24m offer in the January transfer window.

The Dutch international has struggled to make the desired impact at Old Trafford since arriving in Manchester in June last year.

Having arrived with big expectations following his form for PSV and with the opportunity to link up with former national team boss Louis van Gaal, there were high hopes that he would have a major impact for the Red Devils.

However, it hasn’t worked out that way as he has scored just two Premier League goals in 31 appearances, and according to Calciomercatoweb, he could be on his way out already with Milan prepared to offer him an escape route in the new year.

The report claims that the Rossoneri are looking for an initial loan deal with an option to buy for £24m in the summer, and it may well be the fresh start that Depay needs if he doesn’t believe that he has a secure future under Jose Mourinho at United.

His current contract runs until 2019 and has an option to extend for another year, but without playing time and a chance to prove his worth, he will likely be in a difficult position moving forward.

Milan will hope to be bolstered by the injection of transfer funds that will come with a completed takeover before the end of the year by a Chinese consortium, and it appears as though coach Vincenzo Montella has seen something in Depay that he likes and believes he can make a significant impact for his side in the second half of the campaign.
