Valencia sign Maduro from Ajax

Valencia manager Ronald Koeman is bent on making a statement of purpose in the January transfer market and is busy adding to the squad. The latest player to be imported to the Mestalla is the Ajax midfielder Hedwiges Maduro who comes with the transfer fee of 3 million euros attached to his coattails.

Sky Sports has reported that the two clubs have finally accepted a deal and that the player will star for Valencia this month. The player himself is glad to have made the switch and says:

I’m very happy to arrive at Valencia. It’s a very significant move for my career because Valencia is one of the most important clubs in Spain.

The 22-year old’s contract with the Dutch giants was to run out at the end of the season and Ajax didn’t want to let him go scotfree. Ajax always knew that holding onto this young and promising medio would be tough and for the Amsterdam club, the money is indeed a profit rather than a loss. It remains to be seen how Maduro settles into this Valencia side that is closer to the relegation zone than a UEFA Champions League place
