It may have escaped Michael Carrick’s attention that Chelsea won the league in 2004/5 and 2005/6. This is because the official Manchester United website carries quotes from him, stating that he believes the Red Devils have the edge over their title rivals when it comes to experience.
“We know how to kick it over the finishing line,” Carrick told Manchester United Radio.
“Hopefully last season’s success will benefit us this time around. You can always call on experience to help you through the tough times and this squad has plenty of that.
“I think we have the edge in terms of that and I think we’re the best team. Hopefully time will prove that.”
It’s a shame Carrick couldn’t kick the ball over the goal line recently against Portsmouth, when he had an easy chance to put his team ahead in their FA Cup tie. There seems to be plenty of gesturing from United and Chelsea players ahead of Sunday’s key fixtures and it’s clear that some of these comments will come back to haunt them when the season finishes.
