A few seasons ago, the Sheffield United squad complained that their lilac away shirts were giving opposition supporters too much ammunition when their team played against the Blades. However, this hasn’t stopped a famous sportswear brand from making a football boot in a beautiful shade of pink. Will any footballer be brave enough to wear these at an away ground?
Click here to check out Franck Ribery playing the combined roles of Roadrunner, James Bond and the Pink Panther while wearing some fetching Nike Mercurial Vapor Rosa boots. It’s nice to see that they haven’t got carried away with a really long-winded name for their latest creation (!).
Many athletes who have checked out the boots have reached the consensus that ‘you had better be quick’ if you are going to don this type of footwear, the implication being that a) you need to be athletic to look good in them and b) it gives opposition players an extra excuse to flatten you.
Which football players will be giving the Vapor Rosa boots a whirl before the end of the season? Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the names that springs quickly to mind, although Wayne Rooney would perhaps dismiss them as being a little too feminine. Fernando Torres is enough of a pretty boy and a top class player to carry it off, while Dimitar Berbatov might like to stand apart from the crowd, providing Sir Alex Ferguson approves!
Which players do you expect to wear the pink boots, and which ones would rather stick pins in their eyes than be seen wearing such garish fashion statements?
