Sunderland To Sign Former Premier League Star Paul Scharner

The 32-year-old former Wigan star, who can also provide cover in defence, left West Brom at the end of last season when his contract expired and signed a two-year deal with Bundesliga outfit Hamburg.
But Scharner has been unable to hold down a regular first-team spot at Hamburg – he has played less than an hour of football in total – and is set to return to the Premier League and become Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill’s third signing of the transfer window.
“There is yet again an interest in my services from a club in the Premiership,” the Austrian told the Hamburger Morgenpost. “I expect them to put this in concrete terms in the next couple of days.”
