West Ham are set to complete a double defensive signing with Stephen Warnock and Emanuel Pogatetz close to agreeing moves to Upton Park.

England international full-back Warnock will be joining on a free transfer from Aston Villa, while former Middlesbrough defender is to agree terms on a six-month loan deal from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, according to the London Evening Standard.

Warnock has not played for Aston Villa this season after being frozen out by manager Paul Lambert and left out of the club’s 25-man Premier League squad. He was sent out on loan to Bolton, but has been training with the youth team most recently.

The 31-year-old will help cover the problematic left-back role at West Ham with George McCartney ruled out through injury and his young deputy Dan Potts sidelined after he suffered concussion last week against Arsenal.

Austrian international Pogatetz will make a return to the Premier League three years after leaving Middlesbrough, where he spent five years at Middlesbrough before leaving to joining Hannover in Germany in 2010. The 31-year-old centre-back joined Wolfsburg at the start of the season but has struggled to hold down a first-team place.
