Emirates Stadium side complete signing of Malaga defender.
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Malaga full-back Nacho Monreal according to the club’s official website.
Monreal joins the North London club for an undisclosed fee, said to be in the region of £8.5m, and is Arsenal’s only signing of the January transfer window.
Wenger spoke of the signing; “We are delighted that Nacho Monreal has agreed to join us. We have been monitoring him for some time now and are really pleased that we’ve been able to agree this move today. Monreal is a strong left-sided defender with good experience at both club and international level. He is a technically gifted player, a good crosser in the final third and strong in the air. Monreal will add quality to our squad and of course, to our defensive unit. We all look forward to him playing for us.”
Monreal has impressed in his 18 months at Malaga, helping his side to secure a Champions League berth and he becomes the second player to make the move from La Rosaleda to the Emirates Stadium, with Santi Cazorla making the same switch last summer.
Nacho Monreal will be the first Arsenal signing of the January transfer window.
The Pamplona born left-back racked up over 120 appearances for Osasuna before moving to Malaga in a £4.5m deal in June 2011.
Such a move may well leave Brazilian Andre Santos wondering what future he has at Arsenal.
