Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona according to talkSport.

The Catalan giants are in the market for a goalkeeper after their current number one, Victor Valdes, revealed he is looking to depart the club in search of a new challenge.

That has prompted speculation the La Liga leaders could act on their long-standing interest in Reina.

The Spanish goalkeeper came through the ranks at the Nou Camp, making thirty appearances for the club before departing for Villarreal in 2002.

It has been suggested that Liverpool may be tempted by offers for Reina following the player’s struggle for form in recent seasons.

Reina was once considered amongst the best goalkeepers in the Premier League but has failed to replicate the levels of consistency he was once known for.

The player is still highly-rated in Spain though, prompting reports of a return to his homeland.

But Reina has poured cold water on the speculation, insisting he is happy to remain at Anfield.

‘I believe that is conjecture. It’s not in my hands and the rumour mill is part of this,’ said Reina.

‘It’s a great club [Barcelona] but I’m happy at Liverpool.’

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers may well be tempted to sell the player however after he was told he would be given just £20 million to spend in the summer transfer window.

Should Rodgers decide that amount to be insufficient, he may well consider selling Reina as the player would still command a significant transfer fee were he to leave the Premier League.
