Gunners achieve narrow victory in London derby at Craven Cottage.
Fulham and Arsenal both had a player sent off in their Premier League match, but it was the Gunners who came out on top.
With the Cottagers down to ten men for the majority of the match as Steve Sidwell was shown red for a poor challenge in the first quarter hour, it was always going to be an uphill task.
Even with a man advantage though, Arsenal looked incredibly laboured, and barely made a chance from open play.
Fortunately they scored from a set piece then, Mertesacker nodding in after Koscielny headed Walcott’s free kick across goal.
In the second half, there was still no sense of urgency from Arsene Wenger’s team, and they were under the cosh from Fulham’s ten men at times, with the West London side having a goal disallowed.
In injury time, Olivier Giroud was unlucky to receive a straight red for what appeared to be a fair tackle, but despite losing the striker, Arsenal held out.
