The first of many Emirates Stadium summer arrivals?
Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic according to the Daily Express.
The 23 year old Montenegro international is said to be Arsene Wenger’s top transfer target ahead of next season, with the Gunners boss having a reported £70m budget to spend.
According to many reports the talented forward has already agreed a contract offer, said to be in the region of £100k a week and running for four years, whilst an offer of £24m from Arsenal is apparently one the Serie A side is considering accepting.
Jovetic scored 14 Serie A goals last term and has a dozen from 25 starts this season and is displaying consistent form that Wenger hopes will translate to life in the English top tier. Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella signed Giuseppe Rossi in January and this led many to believe that the young Italian boss was preparing for the probable loss of the former Partizan Belgrade attacker.
This source believes that any move to the North London club is dependent on Wenger’s side securing a Champions League berth.
Though Olivier Giroud has had a fairly decent first season at the club Arsene Wenger may feel he needs another option up front who can perhaps score on a more prolific basis and could feel the Jovetic is the man for the job.
