Cottagers keen on highly rated full back.
Fulham are set to rival Arsenal in a bid to sign talented Aston Villa full back Matt Lowton, according to The Express.
The 23-year-old has been kept under a close watch by Craven Cottage scouts as Matin Jol has identified him as a perfect fit for his back line.
However, they will face competition from Arsenal who are also said to be keen on bringing the former Sheffield United man to London. Jol believes that the opportunity to play regular first team football will put his club in the driving seat should the player want to move.
Villa are currently three points clear of the drop zone and face a tough encounter with Sunderland on Monday night, but Lowton has been one of the club’s breakthrough stars this season.
Having joined from League One side Sheffield United for £3 million last summer, Lowton has been the only player in the Villa squad to have played in every game this season, making him the second of just two ever-presents in the Premier League this term.
Fulham are in the market for new defenders after it was announced that they would be losing Chris Baird to West Bromwich Albion and question marks remaining over the future of veteran Aaron Hughes.
