Arsenal losing out in race for youngster.
Schalke have admitted that Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund have been in contact regarding the future of talented playmaker Julian Draxler, according to talkSPORT.
The 19-year-old had stated last month that he had no intention of joining the Champions League finalists but that hasn’t stopped them from making enquiries as they begin their search for a replacement for Bayern bound Mario Gotze.
This will come as bad news for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is a known admirer of the German international and has been increasingly suspected to make a summer swoop for him.
Schalke’s general manager, Horst Heldt, confirmed Dortmund’s interest and admitted that he is not surprised that they have lined up a move.
“For some time, Borussia Dortmund have been working on [trying to sign] Draxler. It is something that does not surprise me given that Julian is one of the best players in the Bundesliga,” he told German newspaper Bild.
Draxler is considered as one of the jewels is German football’s crown and Schalke may face an increasingly difficult battle to keep a hold of him for much longer.
He has struck 12 goals in 38 games across all competitions this season as well as adding a few more caps to his fledgeling international career.
