Emirates Stadium side in talks with player’s agent after meeting club valuation of talented forward.
Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal to sign long term target Stevan Jovetic according to the Metro.
The North London side are negotiating with Fiorentina on a club record £24.5m move for the 23 year old forward and are discussing personal terms with the Montenegro international’s agent, who is in London this week to seal the deal.
The Gunners have been tracking Jovetic for the best part of a year and Arsene Wenger is closing in on a deal to finally sign the Serie A forward, probably helped in his pursuit by the fact that Fiorentina failed to secure a Champions League berth with Vincenzo Montella’s side narrowly missing out to AC Milan in the dying minutes of the final game of the season.
Jovetic’s agent, Fali Ramadani, is discussing terms with Arsenal in London after an official offer was launched.
Juventus are also said to be interested though understandably Fiorentina would prefer to not sell their prized asset to a fellow Serie A side.
Stevan Jovetic has netted 13 Serie A goals this term and managed 14 last term and is a player who offers a great deal more than just goals and is just the type of cultured player that Wenger is known to value.
Arsene Wenger is keen to beef up his attack after seeing recent signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud produce rather luke warm first seasons in English football.
