The agent of Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet says his client will not look to force a move away from the club this summer, according to ESPN.

The Belgian shot-stopper has emerged as one of the best ‘keepers in the Premier League with his fine displays for the Black Cats this season, and his form has attracted strong interest from bigger clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool and Napoli.

Arsenal have been said to be showing the strongest interest, as they look to replace the inconsistent Wojciech Szczesny in goal this summer, though they may have to turn to other targets as Mignolet looks set to stay at the Stadium of Light for the time being.

“At this moment there are some clubs who are interested,” said Mignolet’s agent Guy Vandersmissen. “For a lot of players there are some clubs interested but Simon still has a two-year contract in Sunderland.”

However, he added that although Mignolet will respect his current deal with Sunderland, he is unlikely to extend his stay at the club beyond the next two years.

Sunderland struggled against relegation this season, and it may be that Mignolet will look for a big move in the future.

“There is a contract so we have to respect the contract,” he explained. “But I don’t think at this moment we would be prepared to sign a new contract.

“There is another 2 years on his contract, if they want us to stick to that, we will stick to that and perhaps leave after two years if there is an interest in Simon.”

Arsenal have also been linked with the likes of Julio Cesar and Asmir Begovic, though Mignolet was said to be a high priority on Arsene Wenger’s list.
