Bayer Leverkusen compete with Reds for Barca youngster.
Liverpool will face competition from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in their bid to sign Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya, according to talkSPORT.
The 22-year-old is one of many impressive youngsters to emerge from Barcelona’s famous La Masia youth system in recent years, but, like many, he has also found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the Nou Camp.
Montoya has had Dani Alves to compete with for the right-back spot in Tito Vilanova’s side, and could be tempted with a move away this summer as he looks to play more regularly.
He is currently impressing for Spain in the European Under-21 Championships, and Bayer Leverkusen have identified him as a good replacement for Daniel Carvajal, another Spanish right-back who has just been confirmed as joining Real Madrid this summer.
The Germans may have the edge over Liverpool in the race to sign the youngster, as Montoya would have more chance of the first-team football he craves for Leverkusen than at Anfield, where Glen Johnson is currently the team’s undisputed first-choice right-back.
Another young member of Barca’s defender, Marc Bartra, has been linked with a loan move to the Premier League with either West Ham or Crystal Palace.
