Anfield battler on Nou Camp radar.
Barcelona are ready to step up efforts to bring in a new centre-back and are said to be keen on bringing in Liverpool’s Daniel Agger according to Sport.es.
Having forked out a large sum to sign Neymar it seems that Barcelona have readjusted their push to bring in those on their defensive wish-list and opted to give up on advances for the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Chelsea’s David Luiz, two players who would cost somewhere near £30m and instead see Danish international Agger as a more affordable purchase.
This source claims Barcelona are willing to offer €15m (£12m) for 28 year old, a fee that Brendan Rodgers would surely turn down given that the battling Dane is a crucial member of his defensive plans.
With Jamie Carragher having retired and Martin Skrtel being frozen out of first team action in the second half of 2012/13 it would appear safe to say that Agger is Liverpool’s most important defensive option and as such not a player the Merseyside club would be looking to cash-in on.
However a lot could depend on how Agger would react to genuine interest from La Liga giants Barcelona, who can of course offer the Liverpool man regular Champions League football and the chance to challenge for major honours.
Agger joined Liverpool from Brondby in January 2006 and has made 209 appearances for the Anfield side.
