Silva was close to joining Barcelona last summer but decided to move to PSG instead.
Barcelona defender Carlos Puyol believes that Thiago Silva would be an excellent signing for the Spanish Champions as they try and strengthen their defence this summer, Goal.com reports.
Silva was close to moving to Barcelona last summer but decided to join Paris St Germain instead and had an excellent season with the French side, which culminated in them winning the French League title.
Barcelona missed Puyol’s defensive capabilities last season as the club made a series of defensive errors, especially during the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich, which they lost 7-0 on aggregate.
Puyol believes that the club need to sign defensive cover this summer so that injuries don’t take their toll and thinks that Silva is the type of player that Barcelona need to shore up their defence.
“The centre of defence is a position hit hard by injuries,” he told reporters.
“Thiago is one of the best centre-backs in the world and I think he would adapt well to Barcelona.”
Reports suggest that Silva is considering his options at Paris St Germain following the departure of manager Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid.
The Italian was one of the main reasons why Silva choose PSG over Barcelona but now Ancelotti is gone and Silva is again considering whether or not to push for a move to Barcelona.
