The Magpies are keen on signing Milan’s M’Baye Niang on a season long loan.
Newcastle United’s director of football Joe Kinnear is set to hold talks with Darren Bent’s representatives this week in order to finalise the strikers transfer to St James’s Park, the Daily Mirror reports.
The Magpies have yet to sign anyone this summer, leading to concern from some supporters that the club may miss out on their main transfer targets.
However, Kinnear is pressing ahead with a move for Bent, who has been told by Aston Villa that he no longer has a future at the club and can leave for £6 million.
Bent is thought to be manager Alan Pardew’s main transfer target this summer as he looks to add more players with Premier League experience to his squad.
Fulham are also thought to be interested in signing Bent, with reports suggesting that they will submit a £6 million bid to Villa for the striker.
The Magpies are also interested in signing AC Milan striker M’Baye Niang on a season long loan, with a permanent deal possibly following next summer if the club decide to pay £5 million for the 18 year old.
The striker has played for France’s under 21’s and has also attracted interest from Arsenal and Everton.
