Alejandro Bedoya Will Sign for FC Nantes

After recent links with a ‘mystery French club’, FC Nantes are expected to secure the USMNT midfielder by Wednesday.

US international midfielder and ex-Helsingborg man Alejandro Bedoya will sign for Nantes by Wednesday night.

Ives Galarcep of SoccerByIves.net claims that Bedoya is already en-route to France to sign a three year contract with the Ligue 1 side.

As CaughtOffside had speculated earlier, Bedoya was considering offers from three European clubs. Two of these were named – Heerenveen of the Dutch Eredivisie and Grasshopper Zurich of the Swiss Super League.

The third side was suspected to be based in France, but no name was disclosed. The home of former French legends Marcel Desailly, Didier Deschamps, Claude Makelele and more, Nantes are returning to Ligue 1 in the upcoming 2013-14 season after a four year absence.

Following an impressive spell at Swedish side Helsingborg, Nantes could provide a massive platform for Bedoya next season with games against French moneybags PSG and Monaco. Perform well against teams of such a caliber and Bedoya could all but sew-up a spot in the USMNT’s World Cup squad.

With Nantes perhaps at times over-relying on 20-goal striker Filip Djordjevic, Bedoya will certainly be hoping to create more chances for his teammates around him – and Djordjevic himself, of course.

Nantes kick off the 2013-14 Ligue 1 season away to Bastia on Saturday 10th August. With less than a week to settle in with his new teammates it seems unlikely that Bedoya will feature, but he could make his debut against Lorient the following Sunday. Having already played 14 games for Helsingborgs this season should also ensure Bedoya is ready to enter the league firing on all cylinders.
