Hoffenheim striker Eren Derdiyok has said that he would prefer to stay in the Bundesliga with Hamburg rather than move to Serie A with Torino, Sky Sports reports.

The Swiss international had only arrived at Hoffenheim last summer, but already seems to have been deemed surplus to requirements after scoring just once in his maiden season with the club.

However, his solitary goal in 13 appearances hasn’t put off other clubs as both Hamburg and Torino have expressed an interest in landing his signature, with the 25-year-old stating a preference for staying in Germany.

“At this moment in time Hamburger SV needs to sell a few players first, I know they want to get rid of some,” he told German tabloid BILD.

“But I am considering this. Joining Torino is not an option for me, I am not keen on playing in Serie A and Torino is a club that is always in the bottom half of the table.”

Derdiyok had previously spent three years at Bayer Leverkusen between 2009-12, where he scored 25 times in 90 appearances. Now a seasoned international within the Swiss set up, he has collected 44 caps since his debut back in 2008 where he memorably made an immediate impact against England at Wembley.
