Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is hoping to lure Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to the Emirates Stadium according to the Daily Mirror.
Wenger is keen on the tireless German international as he seeks to add another dimension to a Gunners midfield that is perhaps heavy with creative talent at the expense of grit and steel, luckily the 22 year old not only offers these qualities he is also a masterful distributor of the ball.
Jurgen Klopp will however not be looking to lose another of his top talents having seen the likes of Nuri Sahin, Shinji Kagawa and most recently Mario Gotze leave for Real Madrid, Man United and Bayern Munich respectively, that said this source believes an offer of £20m+ could tempt the Bundesliga side.
Arsenal apparently see Gundogan as a first choice target in relation to their pursuit of added strength to their midfield, whilst keeping an eye on Bayern Munich’s Luiz Gustavo as an alternative option, the Brazilian seemingly a more likely purchase given that the former Hoffenheim man was a bit-part player last term and has now seen a number of additions further threaten his place in Pep Guardiola’s plans.
Wenger may well be keen on Gundogan to offer protection to the likes of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla, handily also giving the club’s playmakers more time on the ball to make things happen.
