Barcelona are set to test Liverpool’s resolve by making an improved bid for centre back Daniel Agger, the Daily Star reports.
The La Liga Champions had a £15 million bid turned down by the Reds earlier in the week but are set to up their offer to around £17 million.
Barcelona are determined to strengthen their defence this summer due to the continued unavailability of Carlos Puyol and the make-shift nature of the clubs defensive last season, which led to several poor defensive displays.
New Barca boss Gerado Martino is keen on Agger as he would be much cheaper than previous target, Chelsea’s David Luiz, who looks set to cost Barca over £40 million if they continue to pursue the Brazilian.
The clubs main target was Paris St Germain defender Thiago Silva but the Brazilian has said he will commit his future to the French Champions, meaning Barca have moved for Agger.
Although Liverpool want to keep Agger at Anfield, the lure of Champions League football maybe too much for the Dane, who would like to test himself at the highest level once again.
