Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Palermo keeper Emiliano Viviano according to the Metro.

The 27 year old Italian international is set to move to the Emirates Stadium side to challenge Pole Wojciech Szczesny fort he Gunners starting spot having come close to joining the North London club a year ago.

Viviano spent last term on loan at Fiorentina but having seen his Palermo side relegated is no doubt keen on a fresh challenge and a move to the Premier League would appear to be on the cards for the Florence born custodian.

Emiliano Viviano will join on a 12 month loan deal that could then become permanent.

Szczesny has not been the most consistent performer over the past 18 months but is clearly a player Arsene Wenger values but could feel that the presence of a quality back-up option could help keep the youngster on his toes in a manner that current number two Lukasz Fabianski perhaps doesn’t.

Viviano has won six Italian national team caps and a move to Arsenal could help the 6ft 5in keeper to add to that total.
