Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to strengthen his attack before the transfer window closes and will make a late attempt to sign one of German football’s brightest young talents.
Arsenal have offered Schalke £26 million plus Lukas Podolski for attacking midfielder Julian Draxler according to respected football journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft, who announced the news on his Twitter account.
Draxler is one of German football’s brightest young stars and has already made several appearances for the German national team.
The 19 year old has been attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs for most of the summer, with Chelsea and Real Madrid known to be monitoring the youngsters progress at Schalke.
However, it is Arsenal who are the first club to make a formal approach for Draxler, with manager Arsene Wenger desperate to sign some quality attacking players before the transfer window closes.
Podolski has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer but it seems strange that Wenger is willing to let one of his most experienced players leave at this late stage in the transfer window.
The German had started the season well for the Gunners but picked up an injury in the clubs victory of Fenerbache in the Champions League last week and could be out for up to ten weeks.
