Arsenal have won the race to sign highly rated young goalkeeper Matt Macey from League Two side Bristol Rovers, Sky Sports reports.

The west country side confirmed last month that they were in talks with the Premier League outfit over a move for the talented 18-year-old, but with Everton also interested, the Gunners had to wait whilst he and his representative made their decision.

Rovers had been resigned to losing their star prospect some time ago, knowing that a host of Premier League sides had been alerted to Macey’s considerable talents, and it was only a matter of time before someone snapped him up.

Macey enjoyed a successful trial with Arsenal during September and manager Arsene Wenger is now set to offer the young shot-stopper a deal to join up with the north London giants.

Yet to make a first team appearance with Rovers, the French tactician is keen on bringing him on board as one for the future, and to add more options between the sticks, somewhere that has given his side problems over recent seasons.

Macey is due to be offered a three year deal and Bristol Rovers will receive a compensatory fee for the deal.
