Arsene Wenger has sent scouts to see the Olympiakos hot-shot in action this season and will have to battle Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Genoa and Benfica in pursuit of the 25 year old.

Mitroglou has netted an amazing 17 goals in 14 appearances in all competitions this term and could be picked up for as little as £7m and could be seen by the Gunners boss as the ideal man to bring in to help add quality support to first choice forward Oliver Giroud.

The in-form goal machine has two years left to run on his current deal but cash strapped Olympiakos are ready to listen to offers for the forward.

Injuries to Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott have left the North London club painfully short of options up front and if Giroud were to suffer an injury or a drop in form Arsene Wenger would have no recourse other than to use Danish flop Nicklas Bendtner, such is the paucity of options available to the Frenchman.
