Of the targets outlined by this source a move for the young Italian international is perhaps the more realistic given the lack of playing time afforded to the 21 year old this season.
El Shaarawy finished last season as AC Milan’s top scorer with 19 goals but the January arrival of Mario Balotelli and the summer signing of Alessandro Matri have limited the youngster’s involvement in the first team set-up with the forward being handed just one Serie A start this season.
A move for the starlet clearly adheres to Arsene Wenger’s youthful transfer policy though such a move may be pricey. There is certainly a need to strengthen the Gunners attack next month, with Olivier Giroud being overly depended on due to the lack of effective alternatives.
Giroud has perhaps felt the weight of that pressure with the French forward scoring in just one of his last ten appearances for the North London club.
Lukas Podolski is still sidelined with injury and Nicklas Bendtner is truly out of his depth though the return of Theo Walcott, who netted twice in his comeback encounter with Man City, has helped to add more of a cutting edge up front.
