The 22 year has been in ongoing contract talks with his Nou Camp employers but the player’s agent has confirmed those talks have stalled leaving the youngster free to enter negotiations with interested parties as his current deal is due to come to a close in the summer.

Liverpool apparently see Montoya as a long term replacement for England man Glen Johnson and had managing director Ian Ayre had held talks with the right-back last November.

Montoya’s agent Josep Maria Orobitg has made it clear his client is ready to pursue other options, stating;

“At the moment everything is stopped. The situation is clear – if we cannot reach an agreement on a new contract, Montoya will be free to find a new club. It’s a complicated situation.

“There have been no recent contacts with the leaders of Barcelona. We will assess the situation, in the coming weeks we will have news.

Montoya made his Barcelona debut back in February 2011 and has made a total of 22 La Liga starts.
