The Gunners have now made the addition of a new forward their number one priority for the January transfer window following the recent spate of injuries which have affected a number of their key attackers, including the likes of in-form France international Olivier Giroud, back-up marksman Nicklas Bendtner and now also Englishman Theo Walcott.

As a result, Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger reopened talks with los Blancos on Tuesday regarding the possible six-month loan capture of their highly rated striker Morata, however, the north Londoners are not thought to be confident of being able to lure the Spain Under-21 international to the Emirates this month.

And if those fears do prove correct, then it is understood that the Frenchman will instead switch his attention to Porto’s Colombia international, a player who has netted an impressive 49 goals in just 64 matches for the Portuguese champions in his first 18 months at the Dragao.
