German champions Bayern Munich are set to go head-to-head with Arsenal for the signature of Schalke starlet Julian Draxler this summer, according to Football Direct News.

The 20-year-old had come close to finally linking up with the north London outfit during the January transfer window following nearly a years worth of speculation, but the Gunners were unable to meet Schalke’s £37m asking price, so the move broke down at a late stage.
Wenger reportedly even tried to offer striker Lukas Podolski to the club in order to sweeten the deal, but Schalke president Clemens Tonnies was uninterested in the proposal.
Arsenal are being widely tipped to make another bid for his services in the summer, when the transfer market is more stable, but their inactivity may prompt other clubs to ready their own bids for the player.
And sources both in Germany and Italy are claiming that the Premier League side will face some significant competition from Bayern Munich, who are looking at further strengthening their own squad ahead of next season.
The Bavarians are reportedly ready to meet the asking price that would trigger his release clause, causing Arsenal a huge blow in their ambitions.
