Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier will reject mega-money offers to sign for Arsenal when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season, reports the Sun.
The 21-year-old has taken Ligue 1 by storm this term, and earned the attention of various European heavyweights as a result. Not only do Chelsea, Newcastle and Arsenal want him, but French giants PSG and AS Monaco are similarly interested in his services.
Aurier is most comfortable at right-back, but has the defensive and physical qualities to play at the heart of defence as well.
Aurier recently lauded Arsenal in an interview, and today’s reports indicate that he’d prefer to move to North London than a fellow Ligue 1 side.
“You cannot turn down Arsenal. Ask any player if they would like to play for Arsenal and they’ll respond favourably without hesitation,” he said.
“It’s a mythical club, where a lot of French players have helped to make their history.”
With Bacary Sagna expected to leave Arsenal when his contract expires in the summer, the Gunners badly need a top notch long-term replacement.
Arsene Wenger is known for preferring young talented stars, from the French league especially, and has earmarked Aurier as a key summer target.
The Ivorian, capped seven times and expected to start at this summer’s World Cup, prides himself on his power and energy up the right flank. He’s not afraid to overlap his winger, but has the pace and work-rate to get back and contribute defensively as well.
