The Belgian international had been the subject of some intense speculation during the January transfer window, but he instead opted to stay with the Gunners and fight for his place.

However, after making just a handful more of appearances he has been once again tipped to make a move away from the Emirates in a bid to reignite his career.

The centre-back has already been linked with a move to Serie A as Inter Milan and Napoli are at the front of the queue to land the talented skipper, while Manchester United are also believed to be pondering a move.

The 28-year-old has just one more year remaining on his current deal, and would likely cost any time rested party around £12m with a salary of £3m a year in wages.

And according to recent reports in Italy, Roma director of sport Walter Sabatini is keeping a close eye on the defender.
