The experienced French trainer is set to be handed a new three-year bumper deal at some point this week as a reward for leading the north London club to their first piece of silveware for nine years after beating Hull City 3-2 in Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

And Wenger’s first two transfer targets of the summer are understood to be the Los Blancos striker and the Leverkusen midfielder as he seeks to build a team capable of winning next season’s Premier League.

France international Benzema has just over a year now left to run on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and is expected to be offloaded before the start of next season as the La Liga giants look to sign Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, while Wenger has been chasing Germany international Bender for some time now.
