The Gunners are ready to make Aurier their first signing of the close season.
Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier is set to become Arsenal’s first new signing of the summer by completing a £7m transfer to North London, according to Goal.
The Gunners are looking to replace the departing Bacary Sagna, who is leaving the Emirates Stadium at the end of the month when his current contract expires.
It will bring to an end a seven-year spell with the club for Sagna and the France international is expected to join fellow Premier League side Manchester City.
The exit of the 31-year-old has been expected for some time and as such manager Arsene Wenger has been on the lookout for new options on the right side of defence, with Atletico Madrid’s Juanfran also on the radar.
However, Aurier has been the preferred choice throughout the search process after an impressive 2013/14 season in Ligue 1, in which the 21-year-old scored six goals and provided six assists.
The Ivory Coast international’s agent Stephane Courbis has confirmed that his client has been in discussions with the North Londoners over a potential move – although another English club were also pursuing the defender.
This other side is believed to be Liverpool, who the Metro reports are looking to bring in the full-back as competition for Glen Johnson.
Yet Aurier is much more keen on a switch to the English capital, where his chances of first team football are more likely as he would be set to battle it out with Carl Jenkinson for a place in the starting XI.
