Ronny, who is Portugal’s all-time leading scorer with 49 goals, returns to team training after recovering from tendinosis and a thigh injury.

Real Madrid goal machine Cristiano Ronaldo has given Portugal a huge boost ahead of the World Cup.

The 29-year-old trained with his international teammates today for the first time since joining up with the squad last week.

Ronaldo, who scored 48 goals in the Champions League and La Liga this season, had been working to an individual training schedule in order to manage two worrying injuries.

He had been struggling with a thigh problem and tendinosis in his left knee.

The fitness issues saw him miss Portugal’s warm-up fixtures against Greece and Mexico.

However, after returning to team training, it is hoped that he will be able to start in his country’s opening group game at Brazil 2014 – against Germany in Salvador on June 16.

Former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles, who had been struggling with a muscular problem, also trained with his teammates today.

An FPF statement read: “Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul Meireles integrated with the remaining group of players.”

Real defender Pepe did not train with the main group. He is continuing his battle to recover from a leg injury.

The statement added: “Pepe is carrying out his rehabilitation and sport specific exercises in the field individually.”

After facing Germany, Portugal take on the USA in Manaus on June 22, before facing Ghana in Brasilia four days later.
