Prolific Porto striker close to La Liga switch.
Check in to Colombia vs Greece
La Liga giants Valencia appear to be leading the chase for Porto striker and Arsenal target Jackson Martinez, according to Spanish source Fichajes.net.
The Mestalla outfit are likely to make a number of big-name signings this summer under wealthy new owner Peter Lim, who has identified the Colombian international as a top priority to boost the team’s squad.
Martinez has an impressive record of 60 goals in 91 appearances for Porto, whom he joined in 2012, and his fine goalscoring exploits have previously seen him attract attention from top clubs all over Europe.
A move to the Premier League had been talked up as a possibility, with both Arsenal and Chelsea in particular known to be keen on securing his services. However, he now looks close to making the move to Spain, after the two clubs held successful negotiations.
With Martinez now looking like being unavailable, it could be that Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy becomes Arsenal’s main target upfront, while Chelsea closing in on a deal to sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid may have cooled their interest in the Porto man.
Still, it will certainly go down as a big success for Valencia to get their hands on such a top talent ahead of plenty of big-name competition.
