Monaco join chase for unsettled Bayern star.Monaco could be ready to rival the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea for the signing of unsettled Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, according to Infoticker.ch.
The Ligue 1 giants could be set to lose star striker Radamel Falcao after just one season this year, with reports that the prolific Colombian is unhappy at the club and looking for an exit, and Mandzukic has been identified as a possible replacement.
The Croatian international will be in action tonight as his side take on host nation Brazil in the opening game of the World Cup, but he has previously stated that he would look to move clubs after the competition.
Arsenal and Chelsea have previously shown a strong interest in the 27-year-old, but Monaco hope that an offer of close to £21m can see them win the race for his signature, as they look to continue where they left off last summer by making big-money investments in some of the world’s biggest names, funded by their wealthy owner Dmitry Rybolovlev.
Mandzukic scored 26 goals in 2013/14, but found himself increasingly among the substitutes bench after falling out of favour with manager Pep Guardiola, while Polish hit-man Robert Lewandowski is also set to join the club on a free transfer this summer.
