United bosses have spent the better part of six months tracking the Uruguayan international after former boss David Moyes travelled to the French capital three times to have the player watched following his continued good form in front of goal.

The Paris Saint-Germain hitman is unsettled at the French champions and keen on a move to the Premier League, after growing frustrated at playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

But despite having a massive offer ready to go, new boss Louis Van Gaal has declared that he has no interest in the player and will not be making a move for him during the transfer window.

Cavani is also said to be reluctant to join a club that cannot offer him Champions League football next season, and he had reportedly told the club that he would only join them if they were willing to match the £300,000-a-week wages as England star Wayne Rooney.

United also had to admit defeat in their attempts to sign Cesc Fabregas after he joined Chelsea on Thursday.
