Serie A champions Juventus are ready to give-up on their pursuit of Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez, due to their belief that the player is on the verge of a move to Liverpool, claim the Italian media.
Reports claim that Juventus manager Antonio Conte will instead turn his attention to Manchester United outcast Nani, as well as Argentine starlet Juan Manuel Iturbe, dubbed the “new Lionel Messi”, who currently plays for domestic rivals Verona.
Sanchez, 25, joined his current club Barcelona from Udinese in 2011, and has so far scored 47 goals for the Catalans – 21 of which came last season. However, the Chilean could well be part of a summer clear-out for new Barca’ manager Luis Enrique, who could use Sanchez as part of a deal to bring Liverpool striker Luis Suarez to the Camp Nou.
However, any move would be unlikely to occur until after the conclusion of the World Cup. Sanchez has already helped Chile to consecutive victories over Australia and Spain, and his team have already qualified for the tournament’s knockout stages with a game to spare.
If Chile beat the Netherlands later today, they will top Group B and likely avoid a match with hosts Brazil in the Last 16. An attractive quarter final tie against either Costa Rica or Ivory Coast could then await one of the tournament’s dark horses.
