Barca eyeing cut-price deal for troubled striker.Barcelona have not given up on signing Liverpool striker Luis Suarez despite his lengthy ban for biting an opponent, the Daily Mirror reports.
The controversial Uruguayan international, whose bite on Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini in their World Cup match earlier this week has seen him landed with a four-month ban from all football by Fifa, has long been one of the top targets for the Catalan giants in this year’s transfer window.
Despite the fact that Suarez will now not play until November, Barcelona remain keen to spend big money on bringing him to the Nou Camp, and are actually encouraged by the fact that his ban may mean Liverpool are now more open to selling him.
The La Liga runners-up hope that an offer of £50m will now be enough to persuade the Reds to let him go, as his disciplinary problems and ineligibility to play for nearly half their season lowers his value considerably.
The 27-year-old would still be an expensive purchase by most players’ standards, though this offer is some way off the £70-80m that had previously been reported as being his overall transfer value.
Barcelona officials are set to meet today to discuss their next moves in this deal, but reports today suggest that the club are fully committed to continuing their pursuit of the Anfield ace.
