The powerful Colombian international, who netted twice against Japan, may well be ready to leave his Primeira Liga side after they lost their title to rivals Benfica and the 27 year old has more than proven himself capable of making an impact in the Premier League after two solid seasons in Portugal.

Martinez has scored 60 goals in 89 appearances for FC Porto and Arsenal will look to beat Valencia & Atletico Madrid in the race to sign the striker, with Arsene Wenger shifting his attention to the South American after his push for Mario Balotelli came to a halt earlier this week.

Last term Wenger was overly reliant on French forward Oliver Giroud and the north London club could well do with further striking options though one imagines that Martinez would act as a replacement for the Gunners striker rather than a back-up for his services given the fee it would take to land the FC Porto man.
