Manager Arsene Wenger has been on the lookout for a new defensive midfielder for the best part of a year now and after being linked with several top names already this summer, and CaughtOffside understands he could be set to look a little closer to home to solve his problems in that position.
Having been in Brazil for the World Cup, Wenger has been able to run the rule over several potential moves and could now decide to move for Cardiff City’s star man Gary Medel after being impressed by his performances in an exciting Chile side that took the host nation to the brink of elimination last weekend.
Medel became the Welsh club’s record signing last summer when he arrived from Sevilla, and having been written off from an early stage as a reckless and violent thug he has since changed opinion of himself with a series of top performances that was sadly unable to prevent the Bluebirds from slipping back down to the Championship.
It is believed that the Gunners will look to bring him on board on an initial season-long loan with the view to making a £7m offer to make the move permanent next year.
