The Gunners have recently been linked with moves for Toulouse’s Serge Aurier and Newcastle United’s Mathieu Debuchy, but CaughtOffside understands that Arsene Wenger is ready to turn his back on that initial interest after learning that the French club would be open to offers for the Dutchman.
Van der Weil joined the Parisian big spenders in the summer of 2012 for a knock down fee of just £5.2m after gaining a fast reputation at Ajax, where he began his career.
During his first season in Ligue 1 he made 29 appearances, scoring one goal, and though last term he made turned out 35 times across all competitions his form took a dramatic slip as he also struggled with injury problems simultaneously.
His form led Dutch national team boss Louis Van Gaal to leave him out of his squad to travel to Brazil this summer, but it is understood that Wenger is still a fan of the player and will look to take advantage of his situation by making an offer over the summer.
