Rodriguez and Schneiderlin still on Pochettino’s radar as well as Sporting’s Dier.
The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of 20-year old Sporting Lisbon defender Eric Dier, who could lend some more balance to their backline this coming season.
Dier is in the son of former FA secretary Ted Coker, but migrated with his mum to Portugal when he was six-years old.
He is highly rated in Portugal, and can play at left-back or at centre-back. The former Everton loanee has emerged as a sudden target for Spurs’ boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is focused on improving his defensive resources at the moment.
Reports also suggest that the Lilywhites are still very much on the case for Southampton duo Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin, despite the Saints’ stubborn stance on keeping them.
Quite understandably, the Saints management do not want to lose any more of their core after already selling five of their top players – largely to Liverpool – but Pochettino believes he could still land his former players if he continues to persist.
