Talk is rife over the 25 year old’s contractual release clause that could see the former Borussia Monchengladbach man leave for a fee of £19.8m next summer, with a real fear that the German international could follow both Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich.
This despite the fact that the talented attacker has previously stated that he would never consider a move to the Allianz Arena.
With this in mind Wenger will look to make an offer for Reus that may tempt Dortmund boss Klopp to sell this month, an offer than could prove beneficial for all concerned.
Wenger has been linked with a plethora of potential targets with a view to converting goal-scoring attacking midfielders into forwards, Schalke youngster Julian Draxler being one such player, and is looking to take advantage of Reus’s uncertain future at Borussia Dortmund.
Reus may be concerned that his side have fallen a country mile off domestic rivals Bayern Munich and as such could be considering his options and a move to Arsenal could tempt the forward and Wenger will make a bumper offer that he hopes will be considered too good to turn down.
Arsenal are ready to make an offer worth around £33m, which would see the north London club bid £24m whilst also offering experienced forward Lukas Podolski in part-exchange.
Podolski had sparked speculation of a probable summer exit when he ‘accidentally’ tweeted via his official account a reference to a move to Sevilla, though a move back to the Bundesliga may well be of more interest to the former Koln man.
Though Klopp has moved to replace outgoing top-scorer Robert Lewandowski with Italian Ciro Immobile the Dortmund manager may feel that Podolski could offer further options in the final third.
A bid of this magnitude may be deemed by Borussia Dortmund as preferable to a likely loss of Reus next summer for a lesser fee, an option that may seem all the more attractive if the player himself is unhappy with life at the club.
Reus has netted an impressive 42 goals in 90 appearances since moving to Dortmund and is a lethal finisher who very much fits the mould of an archeyptal Wenger player, being comfortable on the ball and versatile.
Though Wenger has successfully acquired Chilean Alexis Sanchez he arguably still needs further striking options and should he succeed in his advances for Reus the Arsenal manager will look to send both Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell on loan deals so as to build up Premier League experience.
