Liverpool made recent enquiries for two of Europe’s finest forwards, according to reports from the Daily Mail, who suggest that the Reds had made approaches for both AS Monaco’s Radamel Falcao and Paris Saint Germain’s Edinson Cavani, although were rebuffed for both players.
The report suggests that Liverpool scouts watched Falcao as he scored the winning goal against Arsenal in the 2014 Emirates Cup, and are still keen on signing the Colombian, but expected Real Madrid to win the race for him.
They were ready to offer a season-long loan deal for Falcao, which would initially cost around £10m, before potentially being made permanent at a later date.
Falcao’s fellow Ligue 1 superstar, Edinson Cavani, meanwhile, had also been interesting Liverpool – although they were told by PSG that the Uruguayan international was no longer available for transfer.
With Cavani set to stay in the French capital, Liverpool fans will still hope that there is a possibility of Falcao arriving – with Real Madrid having to get rid of one non-EU player before being able to find room for the Colombian in their La Liga squad.
This had looked to be winger Angel di Maria, but his prospective move to PSG now seems to have fallen through – meaning that they may be persuaded to loan him to Monaco in an attempt to create the room for their move for Falcao to be successful.
