Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira looks to be edging closer to a move to either Arsenal or Chelsea this summer after being left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the Uefa Super Cup, the Daily Express reports.

The 27-year-old has been high in demand for much of this summer’s transfer window, with his future at Real looking bleak after falling down in the club’s pecking order with their signing of Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich.

Khedira has been with the Spanish giants since 2010, establishing himself as one of the top defensive midfield players in Europe, but now looks likely to make the move to the Premier League with Ancelotti boosting his chances of a sale by choosing not to cup-tie him in European competition.

It is believed that a move to Chelsea and a reunion with old manager Jose Mourinho would be Khedira’s preferred option, but Arsenal also hope to snap him up as they continue to chase new signings in the middle of the park.

Both clubs will hope that this latest development aids their pursuit of the German World Cup winner, and the title rivals will be desperate not to lose out on such a top class addition.
