Everton are still chasing former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o as manager Roberto Martinez attempts to find another forward to add to his squad.
Reports in the Daily Mail claim that the Cameroonian international, who has also been linked with Liverpool this summer, is set to be the target of renewed interest from Everton, who are desperate to add to their attacking options.
The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of last season, and could prove a useful impact option for either of the Merseyside giants.
Toffee’s boss Martinez has already added £28m target man Romelu Lukaku to his squad this summer, but is otherwise limited in terms of forward options, and has been open with his desire to find another new player before the transfer window slams shut.
Liverpool have signed eight first-team players already this summer, including England striker Rickie Lambert, but like their local rivals are desperate for further options up-front following the departures of Luis Suarez, Iago Aspas and the potential exit of Fabio Borini.
Lambert and countryman Daniel Sturridge are Brendan Rodgers’ only current, senior forward options (discounting Borini), and having seen a potential deal for QPR forward Loic Remy fall through, the Anfield chief is still on the hunt for another striker.
